What make-up is suitable for the water?

Summer is approaching and you’re surely already looking forward to heading to the water. Whether your destination is the city lido, your grandma’s pond or the crystal-clear sea, one thing is certain. You need to protect your skin from the sun. Your make-up also needs to be adapted to these specific conditions.

Specifics of summer make-up

Are you planning to sunbathe and swim? Focus above all on your complexion and protecting it from the sun. If you can’t do without foundation, buy a BB cream or cream foundation with a UV filter. In an emergency, you can also mix your usual foundation with sun cream and apply it to your face as usual.

Don’t overdo your make-up for the water. Remember that you’ll not only be swimming, but probably sweating too. So don’t unnecessarily burden your skin with heavy foundation. If possible, skip foundation altogether.

Use only products labelled as waterproof. Foundations, eyeshadows and blushers should be silicone-based; products containing hydrophobic waxes, oils and polymers are suitable. Definitely don’t use powder cosmetic products, as they wash off immediately in water. Remember that products with a creamy consistency are more suitable.

Eye and lip make-up

Use waterproof mascara on your eyes. However, it’s long been the case that waterproof mascara doesn’t have to be the pinnacle of make-up for the water. You can also use eyeshadow or eyeliner. Just always make sure in advance that the products you choose are waterproof. Ideally, try everything first in the comfort of your home so you’re not unpleasantly surprised at the lido.

For lips, a light tint or gloss that looks fresh is ideal.

If you can’t go without lipstick, apply a non-smudging lipstick. A lipstick with an oily texture that won’t dissolve in water is also suitable. If you can do without bold lips during summer days, use a lip balm with a UV filter instead.

Tip for you: Match the colour of your eyeshadow to the shade of your swimwear. Don’t be afraid of bold colours, even ones you don’t normally use.
