Korean skincare is becoming increasingly established on the international market thanks to its innovation and uniqueness. It is characterised above all by natural ingredients and an emphasis on comprehensive skin care. In this article, we will look at several ingredients used in Korean skincare and what benefits they may have for your skin.

Ginseng

Ginseng is a herb known for its powerful antioxidant properties and its ability to fight skin ageing. Ginseng stimulates collagen production, which improves the skin’s elasticity and firmness. It also helps reduce puffiness and soothes irritated skin.

Green tea

Another popular ingredient is green tea. This excellent antioxidant rich in vitamins E and C helps protect the skin from free radicals and sun damage. Green tea also helps to soothe irritated skin and reduce signs of acne.

Honey and propolis

Honey and propolis are often used in Korean skincare for their moisturising and antibacterial properties. These ingredients help to hydrate dry skin, while also helping to fight acne thanks to their antibacterial effects.

Snail mucin (Snail Mucin)

Snail Mucin, also known as snail slime, is one of the best-known and most popular ingredients in Korean skincare. This unique ingredient is rich in proteins, elastin and hyaluronic acid, which help to hydrate and regenerate the skin.

Centella Asiatica

Centella Asiatica, also known as gotu kola, cica or Asiatic pennywort, is a popular ingredient in Korean skincare for its anti-inflammatory and soothing properties. This plant is rich in amino acids, beta-carotene, fatty acids and phytochemicals, which help stimulate new cell growth and increase collagen production.

Rice

Rice is used in Korean skincare for its nourishing and moisturising properties. It also contains natural enzymes that act as an exfoliant, removing dead cells and revitalising the skin’s surface.

Retinol

Retinol is a powerful antioxidant that is often used in Korean skincare for its anti-ageing properties. Retinol helps stimulate collagen production, reduce wrinkles and improve overall skin tone.

Herb and flower extracts

Korean skincare also often contains a wide range of plant extracts, including those from flowers and herbs. These extracts provide the skin with natural vitamins, antioxidants and other vital nutrients that support its health and vitality.

Fruit extracts

Many Korean skincare products contain fruit extracts that are rich in vitamins, antioxidants and alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs). These ingredients can help improve skin texture, reduce pigmentation and support overall skin health. For example, lemon extract can help brighten the skin and reduce hyperpigmentation, while apple extract can help hydrate and smooth the skin.

Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is a hydration miracle. This ingredient can bind up to a thousand times its weight in water, which means it can hydrate the skin deeply. Korean skincare often contains hyaluronic acid to keep the skin hydrated, smooth and youthful.

Aloe Vera

It has many benefits, which is why it has become an integral part of many skincare products. Aloe vera is known for its soothing and moisturising properties. It helps relieve irritation and inflammation, moisturises the skin and increases its elasticity. This plant is also rich in vitamins and minerals that are vital for the skin. Aloe vera contains vitamins A, C and E, which are powerful antioxidants and protect the skin from free-radical damage. It has strong anti-inflammatory properties and helps heal minor skin injuries.

Fermented ingredients

Koreans know that fermentation increases the effectiveness of ingredients. During this process, enzymes, amino acids and antioxidants are created that nourish and hydrate the skin. Fermented ingredients such as yeast, rice or soya are commonly used in Korean skincare.
