Most women use mascara, yet they often don’t know how to choose the right one. So we’ll take a look at what to consider when choosing mascara. We’ll also show you how to apply mascara correctly, and how and with what to remove mascara from your lashes.

Choosing the right mascara

Choose mascara according to the type of lashes you have. Do you need to lengthen them? Go for a lengthening mascara (ideally with a tapered tip that can colour and lengthen even the shortest lashes in the inner corner of the eye). Do you have sparse lashes? A volumising mascara will suit you.

In summer at the swimming pool or in winter in the mountains, you’ll appreciate waterproof mascara. You’ll also make use of it for more formal occasions when you really need your make-up to stay looking beautiful all day.

Tip for you: Try several different mascaras and, above all, different brushes. Every woman (and every set of lashes) suits a different mascara and, especially, a different brush. Once you find your favourite, stay loyal to it.

How to apply mascara correctly

If you want your lashes to be perfect, curl them first using an eyelash curler and only then apply mascara. How do you work with mascara properly? Take the brush and wipe off excess product on the rim of the mascara tube. Place the brush at the roots of your lashes and slowly apply the product all the way to the tips. First paint the lower lashes, then the upper ones. You can apply two coats of mascara to the upper lashes, ideally from both sides. Thanks to this, your lashes will look great whether your eyes are open or closed.

Tip for you: Had an accident and got product around your eye? No worries. Wait until the mascara dries, then use a cotton bud, dip it in make-up remover and gently wipe the product away.

Proper make-up removal

To remove eye make-up, use an eye make-up remover, ideally a two-phase one and alcohol-free. With a cotton pad soaked in remover, gently sweep over the eyes and sort of pull the mascara off. Work from the centre of the face outwards and from top to bottom. Don’t rub your eyes; remember the eye area is very sensitive. Use as many pads as needed. The last pad should remain completely clean.
