Are coloured contact lenses safe?

Do you want to buy coloured contact lenses and are you worried about the safety of your eyes? This is a logical concern, stemming from the fact that we only have one pair of eyes and they are perhaps the most important sensory organ for all of us.
Coloured contact lenses are lenses containing a coloured layer that allows you to change the colour of your eyes. This coloured layer is inside the lens, so it does not come into contact with the eye. The material used to make both prescription and non-prescription lenses is hydrogel, which the eyes tolerate very well, so there is no risk of eye damage. Millions of people wear lenses worldwide, so you don’t need to be afraid of wearing them either.
However, it is of course necessary to care for your lenses properly – you can find more information here.
It is important to buy quality lenses from trusted sellers. With high-quality coloured lenses you can achieve a natural result – of course, this depends on the lens colour you choose and the colour of your eyes.
For most people, wearing contact lenses is very comfortable. When you put them in for the first time, you may experience an unpleasant sensation; after all, your eyes are not used to lenses – but this usually fades very quickly and after a few minutes you will forget you even have lenses in your eyes. It is a good idea to learn to blink more often than usual – this naturally moisturises the lenses and helps prevent possible discomfort caused by the lenses drying out.
Never use someone else’s lenses. Lenses are made from certified materials, so there is no danger from that. The danger can be if you handle lenses with unwashed hands – or if you use someone else’s lenses. Every person is different, every eye is different – by using someone else’s lenses you could introduce, for example, an infection or illness into your eye that did not bother the original wearer, or some impurity from dirty hands. Hygiene is therefore an important aspect of wearing lenses.
A common question is from what age it is possible to use lenses. In some countries an age limit is set, but in general – and this also relates to the points mentioned earlier in this article – coloured lenses can be worn by anyone who is able to take proper care of them. For everyone, this may be a different age.
Coloured lenses do not get in the way in the eyes and do not distort vision in any way – therefore it is possible to wear them, for example, when driving a car. Of course, there are also special effect lenses for which this cannot be recommended; they may distort vision, but this does not happen with coloured lenses. In general, it can be said that if you have lenses in your eyes, feel comfortable in them and see well – then you can wear them when driving a car or doing other activities where it is necessary to see well.
