How to Care for Your Contact Lenses

Instructions for Use and Guidelines:

  • Only use the contact lenses if the packaging is undamaged.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly before handling your lenses.
  • Always work over a clean surface that will not damage the contact lenses if they fall.
  • Always handle contact lenses with your fingertips and avoid contact with your nails.
  • Consult your eye care professional and contact lens specialist before using eye or general medications.
  • Do not wear lenses overnight (unless otherwise specified).
  • Wearing contact lenses while driving is not recommended.
  • Before first use, place the lenses in a solution for soft contact lenses for at least 2 hours.
  • Avoid environments with harmful fumes, smoke, dry air, air conditioning, or dusty areas.
  • If you experience discomfort in your eyes – such as a foreign body sensation, burning, stinging, discomfort around the lens, light sensitivity, redness, itching, tearing, blurry edges around lights, halos, changes in vision, or dry eyes – remove the contact lenses immediately. If symptoms persist, seek advice from your eye care specialist.
  • Do not use contact lenses after their expiration date.
  • Scleral lenses are not designed for long-term wear.

Handling Contact Lenses:

  • Ensure the contact lens is adequately hydrated, clean, not cloudy, and free from cracks or tears.
  • Check that the lens is not inside out – place the lens on your index finger. The edges of an inside-out lens will flare outward, while a correctly positioned lens will have edges that curve inward and upward. If the lens is inserted incorrectly, it will cause irritation.

Inserting Contact Lenses:

  • Place the lens on the tip of your index finger. Use the middle finger of the same hand to pull down your lower eyelid and the other hand to hold up your upper eyelid.
  • Gently place the lens directly onto the cornea. Continue holding the eyelids open, look downwards, release the eyelids, and blink gently to position the lens correctly.

Removing Contact Lenses:

  • Hold your eyelids as you would for inserting the lens, or simply hold down the lower lid.
  • Look upwards and slide the lens down from the centre of the cornea to the white part of the eye using your index finger. Gently pinch the lens between your thumb and index finger to remove it.

Caring for Contact Lenses:

  • Rinse both compartments of the contact lens case with solution and then fill them with fresh solution.
  • Place the lens in your palm and moisten it with a few drops of solution. Gently rub the lens with the index finger of your other hand.
  • Rinse the lens with fresh solution and place it in the case compartment. Ensure the lens is fully submerged in the fresh solution. Close the case lid.
  • Repeat this process with the other lens.
  • Leave the lenses in solution for at least 6 hours before wearing them again.
  • After wearing the lenses, discard the remaining solution and rinse the case with fresh solution. Allow the case to air dry, then close the lids once it is dry.
  • Regularly replace your contact lens case.
  • Never use water to clean or store contact lenses – only use solutions designed for contact lenses.
  • If you are not wearing your lenses, store them in a case with solution and replace the solution regularly (approximately once a week).

Contraindications:
Contact lenses should not be used in the following situations:

  • If you have allergies or sensitivities to contact lenses or care products.
  • If you suffer from eye diseases, injuries, inflammations, or infections.
  • If you are using topical eye medications.
  • If your eyes are sensitive to touch.
  • If you have allergic conditions, dry eye syndrome, or other infections of the anterior segment of the eye.
  • If you have glaucoma, changes in the tear film, skin conditions around the eyes, or diabetes mellitus.
  • If your work environment is unsuitable.

Note: Colds or hormonal changes, such as those caused by pregnancy or the use of contraceptives, may cause temporary issues. Contact lenses can also be irritated by contact with creams, lotions, cosmetics, soaps, deodorants, or hair sprays, as well as other substances.

Important Reminder: Contact lenses must not be used if the wearer fails to follow care guidelines, disregards the recommended wearing time, or does not attend regular check-ups with an eye care professional. Contact lenses are also contraindicated for individuals who, due to age, physical or mental condition, or adverse living or working conditions, are unable to follow care instructions or warnings. Contact lenses should not be worn during water sports unless protective goggles are used.
